This is the third time I've had to reconfigure elvui. The first time I used it, one time when installing an update, and now when I downloaded the addon manager straight from elvui...
Why does this keep happening, and why does it keep resetting my configuration? I got sick of reading elvui spamming my chat logs with "YOU NEED TO UPDATE DAMNIT" every 10 seconds while raiding, so I figured on our breaks I would install it. To play it safe, I downloaded the addon manager for elvui to ensure it didnt get rid of my configuration, but nope. Now I've wasted an entire hour in elvui re configuring, and my raid is mad at me for it.
What is going on with this?

Read before you download. And the spam has also been reduced to one message per session as of the current version, it's not something I realized it was doing, because I'm always up to date.

In my own experience with addons, make sure your addons are up2date PRIOR to raiding, on top of that I have learned to read the changelog as it was mentioned that stuff would be reset. Never expect everything to be peachy when you update an addon as that is when things that happen that you didnt want to happen lol. Also, why would you make your raid wait an hour? Last thing that was reset was some locations of stuff and tbh, if you are in a raid just use a standard layout or something as taking an hour seems like you were making everything perfect as can be lol.
On a serious note: Times that things have been reset, the changelog did mention that it would. So double check the changelog to see what has been modified or possibly gotten reset.Posted 11 months ago - #4 -
Raiding isn't the problem. The problem is this addon's own installer deleting the configuration. That's the problem.
Edit - I guess no matter what, I'm in the wrong. It's my fault the addon is coded in such a way that between updates, it will reset your configuration. Of course, sorry about that. Also, you guys remember when they said not to worry about when your spells got put in different places on your bars, that there was a problem with elvui and the new version fixed that? So the way we got used to it was actually the wrong way?
Well then why, in this new version did they put it back? Had to completely change keybindings, had to completely change my bars. But that's my fault too, I'm sure there was something on the patch notes that makes up for it happening.

There was no action button changes. All that happened is the position of the bars got reset, check your cocky attitude or you can take a vacation from here.

You must have had a really really old version to have any of that happen... If you run the installer and selection any of the options High Resolution/Low Resolution or any of the predifined layouts it will change the unitframe locations... I don't recall any of my spells being placed in different actionbars due to an update and been using elvui for a long time now. The addon is not coded to reset your whole configuration and to be honest ranting about someones hard work that you dont have to pay for is an inconvenience I would recommend saying thanks for the hard work Elv has put into this to make everyones time playing wow more enjoyable... well except for yours I guess ;)

Edit - I was using the version just before this new one. I haven't had it installed for more than 3 weeks maybe? And say what you want, when you use something like this to benefit you, and you run into inconveniences like these, you wonder why you use it at all.
The addon is great. It helps a lot. But at times it's almost not worth using it. Of course you are going to get people ranting if there are problems like these, regardless of if it's free or not. The hard work is appreciated, but regardless of that, the inconvenience is more than noted. It's not like this is the first time that this has happened to me. But it's definitely the worst. After re configuring just 3 weeks ago, and now having to do it again, I'm feeling more than shafted.

If you've moved them there when you first setup the UI yes it would do that. Buttons didn't change on the actionbar however.
Theres no point in getting angry, let me paste you the notes.
Version 3.8
This update to ElvUI involves some major internal changes as I prepare for MoP. The result of some of these changes means some settings have been reset.
A fourth raid group has been added to ElvUI, we now have Party, Raid-10, Raid-25, Raid-40. The result of this change is all raid group settings have been reset.
Internal changes with unitframes to lessen memory usage have resulted any stored unitframe movers positions being reset.
Internal changes with actionbars to lessen memory usage have resulted any stored actionbar movers positions being reset.I've bolded and underlined the very first line for you.
This is not a every update thing. This is a once in an expansion type deal.

I'm just going to shut up. I blew my steam off. My point was made, regardless of if it was considered. I appreciate the hard work. Thanks for updating it for mists.

Thanks for updating it for mists.I understand it is upsetting, these are some of the changes that I wanted to do when version 3 first got released, but held off until now because I didn't want to reset settings in the middle of raid content. Seens how most raiders raid 2 hours a week now it's the best time to do it.

I appreciate it, but honestly no bars were moved before I updated. I kept everything in the same spot. When I updated, it moved the top bar over to my right set of bars. I had to move the spells one by one to put them back onto the top action bar, and I had to go into my keybinds to move them over to the new top action bar.
I was only using the version before this. I had just downloaded the last version when I convinced my girlfriend to use the addon.

Then its actually your OWN fault.
All you needed to do was to move the damned BARS back to the position you wanted them in, not to move all the buttons from bar to bar. THAT way, you would have kept the spells in the correct position and not had to redo your keybinds. So dont come here ranting about shit you FUCKED UP ON. There is no update in ElvUI that moves your buttons or changes your keybinds. Period.
If you didnt realise it was the ACTIONBARS that reset their positions (as clearly stated in the changelog) then dont come here ranting because you are too much of a dumbass to realise... 'oooh... I had better move ActionBar 1 and actionbar 2 back to where I had them before'Posted 11 months ago - #13 -
